The Region – Undoubtly the Barcelos – Santa Isabel region is the most promissing region in the world for fishing the peacock bass, being the outnumbered reasons the number of tributaries, non existence of heavy commercial fishing, very difficult navigation and the conscientization of local people that the peacock bass is hundreds of times worthy alive than dead, commercial fishing was stopped at 1996 and only sub existence fishermen are allowed to fish on the negro basin and peacock are not the most wanted fish for commercial purposes.
Peacock Bass Expedition takes you where the fish is, at the most remote points of the most acknowledged fishing spots (Rio Negro, Padauiri, Aracá, Cuiuni, Caurés, Arirarrá, Urubaixi, Preto, Alegria, Uneiuxi among other lakes and tributaries). Our staff always bring someone from the local communities to get the feel of the place and situate all guides where there are more probabilities to get fish.

The Tucunaré Açu - Their back has a green color which turns out to golden on the sides. It´s well known for his three vertical stripes on both sides as well as the black spots situated behind the eyes and the cheeks. This specie can reach more than 10 kilog (22 lbs). The Açu is mostly found at lake entrances, calm waters, beaches and under big submerged structures. |

The Paca Tucunaré - It´s the darkest species of all, this subspecie has three stripes as the Açu tucunaré and a series of white spots around it´s body. The world record ( a monster of 26-27 lbs) belongs to this subspecie. Fishermen acknowledeg that Paca is the strongest fighter of all, surprising fishermen when catching speciemens of 12-15lbs for it´s superb strength. Little Pacas are always found on river banks and fast waters near rocks and Igarapés entrances. |

The Borboleta Tucunaré - Is the most colorful and abundant member of the family. It has three spots on both sides besides it´s ocelo (fake eye). Borboletas (butterflies) weight on average 2 to 5 lbs but there mentions of fish caught up to 13 lbs. It´s very commom to catch more than one Butterfly Peacock on the same lure. It´s mostly found on swallow lakes and on drop-offs. |
